1920s Gossard Advert

brandsnob:

This is a push ad for REIS underwear from the 1940’s and I find it kind of humorous. Did men really talk to each other about their underwear in the 40’s? Who knows? It could be possible that they did back then and that it was a cultural norm. The underwear are called “Scandals,” which is even more funny to me. To me, “Scandals” does not seem like an appropriate name for underwear. I also noticed the tagline “They’re cut to fit… to fight fatigue.” I have an idea of what the “fatigue” is about, but I have an idea. I’m thinking the fatigue refers droopy scrotums…. I’m just not sure. Anyway, this ad made me laugh, but I did enjoy the artwork and the little man whistling or shouting “Change to REIS.”
